June 25, 2010 Copenhagen, Denmark

About 15 years ago we spent several days on our own in Copenhagen driving in the city but mostly doing walking tours. We bought some of the beautiful Royal Copenhagen cups & saucers and our down comforter, so we already have some wonderful memories of being here. This was our view as we came into the port. Click on the photo so you can see the old fort and lighthouse better--the old against the new wind turbines! Notice that many of the turbines are in the water, we saw them this way in a number of places and wonder how they are stabilized in the water!

Since we had spent some time in Copenhagen before mostly walking in the city, we decided to take a tour called "Scenic Copenhagen by the Sea" which was a 2 hr canal boat trip. We had a "5 minute walk" along the pier to board the canal boat. Unfortunately, at breakfast Bob had turned and his back had gone into spasms. He found walking really uncomfortable and the stairs down to the boat were very steep but managed it. This is a view of some of the shops which are right at water level and they come by boat.

This building was formerly a torpedo ship building facility which has been renovated into condos that sell for 1.5 million each!

One of the buildings we saw from the water was the Parliament which is housed in what was a palace. This is just a bit of the intricate carving on the facade.

A view of the Black Diamond Library from the canal. A very modern design which they say sparkles like a black diamond.
