Peterhof June 21, 2010 continued

We made it to the Grand Cascade for the 11 a.m. presentation with the band playing and lights as the various fountains came to life. It was truly fantastic and worth the quick walk through the gardens.
Another view of the fountains and sculpture taken from the stairs. There were 60 stairs from the terrace in front of the palace to the walk around the Grand Cascade--60 down and then 60 back up. Got our exercise this day!

Another view. You can see tourists standing on the stairs on the far side (right side of photo) and there was an identical stairway on the other side. The entire area in front of the palace, both stairways and all along the canal were many people deep. We were very lucky to be up close enough to see well. Just awesome. Pictures don't do it justice.

Close up of some of the sculpture at the fountains. Everything in Peter's palaces and grounds was gilted and very opulent.

Another of the fountains in the gardens. This was a warm, humid day and with all the stairs inside and out as well as very long walks, we were tired! Had a nice nap after lunch before going up to Horizons to watch us sail away from Russia.
