We came out of the theater at 11 p.m. into what they call "White Nights" which was sort of grey overcast looking but not dark. They consider these nights that never get dark in May & June to be the best part of the year. The streets and parks were full of people. Our tour guide explained that the teens were celebrating passing their exams & graduating with all night parties called "Red Sailing". The streets were decorated like this bridge with lots of flags.
There were teens just every where doing what teens do!
Around 4 a.m. a boat will sail down the Neva River where we are docked and will set off fireworks! (Luckily we didn't hear them.) It took us quite awhile for the bus to get us back as many streets were closed to traffic for the parties and there were police directing traffic. Sometimes sending us in a direction different from what was planned! After we got through customs, we ordered crackers & cheese from room service since we hadn't had any dinner. And it's hard to think it's time for bed when it is so light. By 3 a.m. the sun will be shining like noon!
Glad you posted the white nights pic. Interesting for those who haven't experienced or seen it.
